IN MEMORIAM
The founder of the Society for Production Research (Üretim Arastirmalari Merkezi), Turkey, and the main driving force behind the annual International Symposium for Production Research, Prof. Dr. Günes Gencyilmaz, passed away on 5th April,2024.
He will be remembered fondly and with gratitude for his tireless efforts to promote the scientific research on production and to educate and mentor many young scholars in this field.
Prof. Dr. Güneş GENÇYILMAZ was born in 1940 in Istanbul. After receiving his Mechanical Engineering degree, in 1965, from Istanbul Technical University, he embarked on a successful academic career which included studying, researching and teaching in Turkey, Zurich, Switzerland and London, U.K.
A long-time supporter and member of the Scientific Committee of ISPR, Peter Kopacek passed away on March 2, 2024 at the age of 85. He will be remembered with great respect and gratitude for his leadership and his scientific contribution to our symposia.
Prof. Kopacek was born in Vienna on October 31, 1939. He graduated in mechanical engineering from the Vienna University of Technology in 1966 and received his doctorate in control engineering (cum laude) in 1971. His distinguished career included not only teaching at leading Austrian universities but he also assumed leadership roles in several scientific research entities, mostly founded or initiated by himself. Prof. Kopacek was also instrumental in introducing industry-oriented research in Austria.
